On our last trip to Santa Teresa, my wife and I decided we really needed to improve our Spanish. Julia came highly recommended by the owners of the villa we were renting - and we were happy they did!. Working with Julia was a great decision. She's friendly, fun, flexible, well organised and well prepared. She listened to our objectives and tailored the classes to fit. It really was the perfect combination of theory, grammar and conversation. Through in-class exercises and afterclass "homework", Julia pushed us to keep learning, through our entire stay. The end result was that we made real progress and plan to continue with Julia on our next stay in Santa Teresa.

I enjoyed my classes with Julia, and learned a lot! I took Spanish classes back in elementary school and high school, but haven't used it since. Julia was very patient in helping me relearn the basics, and go from there. She came fully prepared for class, and even gave out homework! She was very accommodating with schedules and coming to our hotel for class. I learned a lot, improved my basic conversational Spanish, and will continue to improve with the materials she gave me and practice. Thank you, Julia, for making my stay and grocery shopping easier! I met Julia through a friend who recommended her highly. When we started classes my Spanish was extremely basic. I could order food and get a taxi but I didn't know any grammar and my accent wasn't great. Julia started with the basics and made sure I knew how to pronounce each letter and sound in Spanish. Over our two months together she moved on to more complex grammar including lots of irregular verb conjugations and the past tense. We went at a speed that was quick but not overwhelming and when I finished lessons with her I felt much more confident getting around using Spanish and was even able to converse with a few people. Julia was very flexible and easy to communicate with. We arranged all our classes over WhatsApp and she was always responsive. We did all our classes on her back porch which was really beautiful and relaxing, in the jungle in Santa Teresa. Overall my experience with Julia was both laid-back and very effective for improving my Spanish.

We connected with Julia after reading positive reviews on Facebook. My family was in Santa Teresa for a month February/March 2021 and Julia gave Spanish lessons to my two daughters (ages 5 and 7). They had some prior Spanish from living in Costa Rica when they were very young, but had forgotten a lot after living back in the US for a few years. Julia was great and my girls absolutely loved their time with her. The classes were held outside under the rancho by our pool. Her lessons were always interactive and involved singing, games and art to keep things fun and engaging. Julia also gave the girls individual attention to account for their age differences and reading ability as needed. The girls were always excited to show me what they had worked on afterwards, which further reinforced the material and vocabulary they learned that day. Overall, my daughters' Spanish and confidence noticeably improved over the 4 weeks they spent with Julia. Julia is a true professional: prompt, responsive and competent and very warm and affectionate with the children. Hi would highly recommend her to other families looking for Spanish lessons for their kids while visiting Santa Teresa. We will certainly be reaching out to Julia again when we return in January!"

I learned so much during the Spanish lessons with Julia. When I arrived I couldn’t speak Spanish at all. Within a few weeks I was already able to have basic conversations, I never expected to accomplish that at all while staying in Costa Rica for a couple of months. Now after 5 months of spanish I feel way more comfortable speaking Spanish with everyone. Im really happy that my friend told me to go to Julia to have Spanish lessons. I really like it that the main focus of the lesson is conversations and while speaking you learn all the grammer as well. I will miss the weekly lessons and chinwen (Julia’s cute dog).

I worked with Julia for the full two months that I lived in Santa Teresa... and wow... what an improvement I've seen in my Spanish! Though I came to her at a fairly intermediate level, I am now able to speak much more fluently at a much more conversational level... a place I've been wanting to get to since I first began my Spanish journey. With Julia, she won't focus so much on the grammar or the rules, but rather on getting you to SPEAK and to speak WELL. While she will explain the rules and correct any mistakes you might make, her main goal is to get you speaking Spanish with confidence - and that she did! And she will for you too. Julia is an extremely kind, compassionate, empathetic, easygoing and open-minded person which not only helped me to feel comfortable from the get-go, but also helped foster a real friendship between us, something I will forever cherish. As I've learned and seen, the more practice and time you give into your Spanish practice, the better you will get, and I'm SO glad (and grateful) that I spent my time learning with Julia. Julia is a brilliant teacher not only because she is clear, patient, and flexible; nor because she is funny and an extremely attentive listener. She is a great teacher because she loves her work. She loves it so much that, as a language teacher, she will show her students a secret surf spot, take them into the jungle to grind cacao, and introduce them to each other when they are in town. Her love of learning Spanish is thus infectious and spreads. It improved my life every day I was in Costa Rica. Thanks Julia!

I had a fantastic time in Santa Teresa. Julia was my Spanish teacher and I improved my Spanish a lot with her classes. My Spanish was already on a level where I could express my ideas to some extent so this way Julia and me sticked to conversations, which worked out perfectly. I enjoyed the hours of conversations very much and they were always fun and had a good, relaxed vibe. Julia is a lovely person and a patient teacher, and keeps the conversation going on so I kept on improving by constant practicing. I am very happy with the outcome and I would choose her again!

Julia is personable, and works hard to teach in a manner that you will understand. What I like about her is that if you don't get something the first time she presents it, she will approach it from a different angle. She is gentle in her criticism, but gives you immediate feedback on how you are doing. She immediately grasped my purpose in taking Spanish, and she is gearing the course toward conversation. I spent five weeks this summer being taught by Julia. As a complete beginner, she gave me a good round-up over the Spanish language. She made sure I got the right vocabulary for my daily business as a Social Worker and that I got to work on what I wanted to improve. Her coaching approach was very welcomed and I would always recommend her as a teacher.

With Julia you forget you’re in class, because it feels like you’re talking to a friend over coffee. I did an intensive Spanish course of one month with Julia. When I started I was speaking very basic Spanish. I could only use the present tense and felt shy to start a conversation. But Julia immediately made me feel at ease. With Julia it felt very comfortable and easy to engage in conversation which made me want to try to talk as much as I could. After the course I felt I had improved so much. I feel so much more comfortable in group conversations now, which before were almost impossible for me to follow, and I can explain myself so much better now I have learned to work with past, present and future tense. I still have work to do when it comes to my Spanish, so when I’m back in Santa Teresa I will definitely see if Julia has time for me again!

I just spent one week in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica and was lucky enough to find the best Spanish Teacher, Julia. First of all she was kind enough to fit me into her schedule as she is a very popular teacher. I have taken Spanish lessons from a number of teachers and she is the best. I am very pleased because I feel that I made tremendous progress in one week. She is very good at explaining grammar and is happy to answer any questions that you may have. In addition, she will speak Spanish at your level so that you can enjoy practicing conversation and therefore improve. In addition, she is just a very nice person to spend time with. We had fun going to lunch together and also spending time at the beach. All the time, we were practicing my Spanish.

Juli is a fantastic teacher and tutor. I couldn’t recommend her more! She has great patience and ease when teaching children! I highly recommend her to anyone looking for some extra support during these times of homeschooling, or for anyone who wants to immerse their children into Spanish. We met Juli last year when my daughter was struggling in her Spanish classes at school. She had developed a resistance because she wasn’t feeling confident in class. Juli helped her with the basics she had somehow missed (letters and sounds) and got her to speed very quickly and meticulously. With patience and love my daughter quickly gained confidence and started enjoying her Spanish classes again.

Sweet and involved Spanish teacher for our family. We met Julia in Santa Teresa at our rental villa. She gave Spanish lessons to our sons (3 & 5 yrs old) and to ourselves. Julia is a super sweet and patient person. Our boys loved her. The lessons she gave were very educational. She teached us the base which is really important to understand the Spanish language. After a couple of lessons it felt we were friends but although Julia stays very professional. We really recommend Julia for fun and relaxed Spanish lessons during your stay in or nearby beautiful Santa Teresa.
